Another Big Day Set for Glasgow on Friday, October 16 to Celebrate New Bridge
MoDOT Seeking Special VIP Participants
MACON - Last week was a big day in Glasgow as MoDOT opened to traffic the newly renovated Missouri River Bridge. Another big day is scheduled to celebrate the highly anticipated opening of this Missouri river structure on Friday, October 16 at 3:15 p.m. in Stump Island Park.
MoDOT invites everyone in Glasgow and the surrounding communities to join in the celebration. Residents of these communities have been patient since August of 2008, while MoDOT completed this $14 million innovative partial replacement solution to an ailing structure that was more than outdated. Now, it is time to celebrate this huge investment to our transportation system in north central Missouri.
Some of the day's festivities include:
• Musical Performance by the Glasgow High School Band
• Presenting the Colors and leading the Pledge of Allegiance: VFW Post 2914 / American Legion Post 211
• Video "Building a Bridge"
• Ceremony Participant Signature Banner
• Souvenir Ferry Tickets
• Refreshments
United States Senator Kit Bond, Missouri State Senator Bill Stouffer, State Representatives Joe Aull and Paul Quinn, Howard County Commissioner Lowell Eaton, Saline County Commissioner Becky Plattner and Glasgow Mayor Fred Foley will join MoDOT representatives to offer comments of celebration and thanks to these communities.
MoDOT is seeking special VIP's as well as other participants for the ceremony.
Anyone who attended the celebration in 1925 when the original bridge opened to traffic is urged to contact MoDOT Customer Service toll-free at 1-888-275-6636 to be our special VIP guest. Also, any car or motorcycle clubs who would like to travel the new bridge together are welcome and are also asked to contact the toll-free number.
