The public outreach process for the Missouri Route 150 Widening project lasted from May 2006 to May 2007. During this period MoDOT met with public to discuss the project several times.
Recognizing that community concerns would differ by geographic location within the corridor, MoDOT and the design team met first with stakeholders in the western portion of the corridor, where right-of-way was acquired several years ago, then with stakeholders to the east, and finally with stakeholders in the middle of the corridor. The meetings consisted of individual meetings and community coffees.
Once the issues from each group were heard and understood, a public meeting was organized to discuss the new suburban/urban typical section and access with the entire corridor at once. After that another community coffee was held to discuss potential roadway enhancements and a design public hearing was conducted to discuss the preliminary design of the roadway.
With the goal of keeping traffic calm, yet moving, MoDOT’s design for the improved Route 150 includes:
- Signalized intersections
- Lower 45 mph posted speed limit
- Two 11-foot lanes in each direction
- A raised median
- Sidewalks on both sides (from Ward Road to Route 291)
- Shared use path on the north side (from Horridge Road to Ward Road)
- Space will be provided for a multi-use path and sidewalks in the remaining areas of the corridor
The City of Grandview is currently developing detailed plans for monument signage, streetscaping enhancements within the median from Oil Creek to Park Hills Drive, and intersection improvements (low plantings and irrigation) along Route 150 from Route 71 to Byars Road. Construction should happen in conjunction with Phase I of the Route 150 Widening project.
